July 2009 Update

This project activity is closed
Please be aware that this SRSM activity took place in 2008, and no further updates are planned.

The report has been finalised and forms part of the ongoing work of the ERA project team - more details of what the project is doing can be found at the ERA page on smart metering

From the ERA website:
On the 11 May 2009, the Government announced a positive impact assessment for delivering smart meters to every home in Britain. Government also published a further consultation on the delivery model for smart metering and smart meter functionality. This consultation ends on the 3rd August 2009. Government is expected to respond to this consultation by early autumn. Government will also need to set up the governance body to deliver smart metering soon afterwards.
In the meantime, work within the ERA is continuing on Energy Supplier Use Cases, and a number of these will relate to Local Comms/HAN activities. Proposals have been made by the project team to work with a wider group again once the Supplier position is consolidated. There are also tentative plans to develop a recommendation for the Field/Laboratory testing recommended in the 2008 Report.

Work is also ongoing on developing the Smart Meter Specifications and related topics. The project team is also taking an active interest in the European standards development work.

Finally, the project continues to maintain an interest in Local Comms/HAN developments, and Simon will occasionally post interesting information to this site, and he encourages members with similar details to do the same. He has reorganised the navigation menu to make it easier to find and add materials for specific technologies.
